Running Training Load Monitoring

Developing training load monitoring tools for runners in collaboration with Athletics Quebec.

Overview

This project focuses on developing tools for monitoring training load in runners through a collaboration with Athlétisme Québec. By integrating physiological and performance data, we aim to create practical tools that coaches and athletes can use to optimize training programs and prevent overtraining.

The research addresses a critical need in running sports: objective quantification of training stress to guide periodization and recovery strategies.

Objectives

  1. Create algorithms for training load tracking from wearable data
  2. Validate tools with elite and recreational runners
  3. Develop a mobile application for real-time monitoring

Methodology

  • Integration of GPS and heart rate data from training sessions
  • Development of load quantification algorithms
  • Field validation studies with Athletics Quebec athletes
  • User-centered design for mobile application

Team

  • Jonathan Tremblay (Lead Investigator)

Funding

  • Mitacs / Athlétisme Québec: $60,000 CAD
